Convert HEIC to TIFF

TIFF is the long-standing lossless format of print shops and photo archives. Convert HEIC photos to compressed 8-bit TIFF here when a workflow specifically asks for it.

How to convert HEIC to TIFF

  1. Add your photos. Drop HEIC files onto the frame at the top of the page, choose them from your device, or paste them. You can add up to 100 at once.
  2. Check the format. TIFF is already selected on this page. TIFF files are created on our server, so photos are uploaded and deleted right after conversion.
  3. Download. Each photo converts automatically as soon as you add it. Download them one by one, or take everything at once as a ZIP.

What TIFF gives you

TIFF is a flexible container that print and publishing software has supported for decades. It stores the decoded pixels without further loss, using LZW compression to keep files smaller than a raw bitmap.

  • Print shops and publishers that request TIFF.
  • Archiving the decoded image of a photo in a format that will stay readable.
  • Editing in tools that handle TIFF better than HEIC.

What to know before converting

  • Lossless does not mean original. The HEIC was already compressed with loss. TIFF preserves what is decoded from it and adds no new loss, but cannot restore discarded detail.
  • 8-bit output. The TIFF is 8 bits per channel. If your workflow needs 16-bit files, convert from a RAW original instead.
  • Large files. Expect many times the size of the HEIC.
  • Metadata is removed, including capture date and GPS.

Privacy for this format

TIFF output is generated on our server. Your photo is uploaded over an encrypted connection, converted and returned, and uploaded originals are deleted as soon as conversion finishes. Converted files are removed after download or after about 15 minutes. See the privacy page.

Frequently asked questions

Is TIFF lossless?

The TIFF itself is, so no further quality is lost. The decoded HEIC image is what gets stored.

Does the TIFF keep my photo’s metadata?

No. Metadata such as date and location is removed.

Can I get a 16-bit TIFF?

Not from this tool. Output is 8-bit.

Are my photos uploaded?

Yes, for TIFF only. They are processed on our server and deleted right after conversion.
