Convert HEIC to PNG

PNG keeps every pixel exactly as decoded from your HEIC, with no further compression loss. It is the right choice for editing and design work, and the wrong choice for sharing lots of photos, because the files get big.

How to convert HEIC to PNG

  1. Add your photos. Drop HEIC files onto the frame at the top of the page, choose them from your device, or paste them. You can add up to 100 at once.
  2. Check the format. PNG is already selected on this page. PNG has no quality slider because it is lossless. Use "Largest side" to shrink very large photos.
  3. Download. Each photo converts automatically as soon as you add it. Download them one by one, or take everything at once as a ZIP.

When PNG is the right choice

PNG compresses without throwing information away. That makes it a good working format when you will edit a photo several times, because nothing degrades each time you save. It is also the format to pick when you need transparency, for example a cut-out subject you want to place on another background.

  • Editing in Photoshop, Affinity, GIMP or Figma.
  • Photos you will annotate or draw over.
  • Images with transparent areas (stickers and cut-outs saved as HEIC).
  • Archiving the exact decoded pixels of a photo.

One thing worth knowing: PNG keeps the pixels as they come out of the HEIC decoder. The HEIC itself was already compressed with loss, so PNG preserves what is there but cannot restore detail that was discarded when the photo was taken.

Keeping file sizes under control

If your PNGs come out too large to handle, set "Largest side" to 2560 px or 1920 px. Fewer pixels means a proportionally smaller file, and on screens you will rarely see the difference. For photos you only need to share, HEIC to JPG or HEIC to WebP gives far smaller files.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the PNG so much bigger than my HEIC?

HEIC is a very efficient lossy format. PNG is lossless, so it stores the full decoded image. A 2 MB HEIC photo can easily become a 20 MB PNG.

Does PNG make my photo better quality?

No. It avoids adding new quality loss, but it cannot recover detail that the HEIC already discarded.

Will transparency be kept?

Yes, if the HEIC has an alpha channel. Ordinary camera photos do not have one, so they will be fully opaque.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. PNG conversion runs entirely in your browser.

Which should I pick for printing?

For most prints, a high-quality JPG is fine and much smaller. Choose PNG or TIFF when your print workflow specifically asks for lossless files.
